TiCN Coating, formally known as Titanium Carbo-Nitride coating, is an all-purpose strengthening coating that does especially well with cutting applications. Adding a total thickness of approximately .0001″ – .0002″ (2 – 5 Microns), TiCN coating will lengthen the life of your reamer and keep your tools sharper for longer. Choosing to have your tools TiCN coated may add 2-3 weeks to your lead time.
Oil grooves are an available option for all chamber reamers over 22 caliber. The grooves allow for a better flow of cutting fluid as well as flushing of chips.
Pistols often come from the factory with a case or surface hardened surface finish. The hard finish may be referred to as Nitride, PVD, CVD, Nitrocarburized, Salt Bath Nitride, Melanite, Tenifer, or Tufftride and likely other names as well. Some prefit rifle barrels will also have these treatments. Military surplus or military contract overrun barrels are often chrome lined. Chrome lined barrels are plated only on the inside. Chrome lining will often have a silvery white color versus the more grayish silver of stainless steel. If you are not sure, contact the barrel manufacturer. This reamer is not guaranteed to cut these harder finishes and plating’s. There is no warranty for damaged tools from these conditions, and again, it is always best to contact your barrel manufacturer first. For an extra hardcoat layer, we recommend you TiCN coat these reamers for added life and durability.
The 223 Remington uses the standard 221 Remington Roughing Chamber Reamer.
